Hidden Gems in Richmond Most People Miss (Even If You’ve Lived Here for Years)
Richmond has its well-known spots…
and then it has the places you only find out about from someone who’s been here awhile.
The kind of places you almost don’t want to share — but once you know, you keep going back to.
Here are a few that tend to fly under the radar:
Libby Hill Park (but not when you think)
Everyone knows Libby Hill… but not like this.
Go:
- early in the morning
- or right at sunset during the week
It’s quieter, slower, and honestly feels like a completely different place than the usual crowd times.
Forest Hill Park trails + ruins
A lot of people go to Forest Hill… but don’t explore it.
If you go a little deeper in, you’ll find:
- old stone ruins
- wooded trails that feel tucked away
- spots that don’t feel like you’re in the city anymore
Byrd Park (beyond the lakes)
Most people stick to the main paths.
But if you wander a bit, you’ll find:
- quieter walking routes
- shaded areas that are perfect in the summer
- little pockets that feel way less busy
Church Hill side streets
Church Hill gets attention (rightfully so)… but the side streets are where it really shines.
Walk a few blocks off the main areas and you’ll notice:
- how quiet it gets
- the architecture details you’d normally miss
- that “this feels like a movie” kind of energy
The “Unplanned” River Spots
Not every good river spot is on a map.
Some of the best ones are:
- the ones you stumble into
- the ones someone casually tells you about
- the ones that take a little effort to get to
(And once you find one… you kind of understand why people don’t broadcast them.)
So… Why Does This Matter?
Because this is the side of Richmond you don’t always see right away.
It’s not just:
- the main restaurants
- the popular neighborhoods
- the obvious spots
It’s the in-between places that start to make the city feel like yours.
